Role Overview

A critical component of building that system-level change and achieving impact at scale is to make our research and insight an asset to policy-makers and regulators, in support of evidence-based policy making. The Policy and Public Affairs Lead will be central to our efforts in this space, taking the lead on developing and implementing a programme of engagement with key political, public policy and regulatory stakeholders to ensure our work reaches the people through whom it can have the most impact.

The role will involve mapping the stakeholder universe around issues affecting financial security, building new relationships with influential individuals and organisations and supporting the Nest Insight team to maintain and build its network. You will help to design and deliver public and private events, represent Nest Insight in meetings and external events, and help to design effective dissemination activity around our work. You will support other members of the team, including senior leaders, through briefings and content development for external engagement activity, including writing speeches and presentations for high profile external events, helping us to shape and deliver a compelling narrative around the financial security needs of low and moderate income households.

You will also be a key source of intelligence for the team, monitoring political and policy developments and emerging ideas and helping us to define our response to them.

Directorate/Department Overview

Nest Insight is a public benefit research and innovation centre within Nest Corporation, the organisation responsible for running the Nest pension scheme. Nest Insight is legally part of Nest, but on a day-to-day basis operates with considerable autonomy and with a clear public-benefit remit. It is funded through a mix of direct financial and indirect ‘in kind’ support from Nest and a number of external funders supporting individual projects and programmes; sets its own work programme; and operates under a separate sub-brand with a separate communications presence across traditional and social media.

In recent years, Nest Insight has grown considerably: in terms of the size of the team; and both the scale and subject-matter breadth of the work programme. At the same time we’ve been on a journey from a more fundamental research outlook to one more focused on impact, while retaining a commitment to high-quality, independent collaborative research. The impact we have – especially with policy-makers and business leaders – is already considerable. But we believe that with the quality of our work and the strength of the stakeholder networks we’ve built, that impact could be significantly greater with a more strategic approach to communications and brand-building. That in turn should expand the range of potential funders interested in supporting our work, giving us further room for growth and, in turn, further increasing impact.

Organisational Overview

Nest Insight is a public benefit research and innovation centre. We exist to find ways to support low- and moderate-income workers to be financially secure, both today and into retirement. We partner with employers, product providers, academics and policymakers to identify, invent, test and evolve practical solutions and see what works best for people in the real world. This builds the case for systems-level change.

Nest is an award-winning workplace pension scheme, the largest in the country.

Set up by the government to give every worker in the UK somewhere to save, our first-class responsible investment practice and governance are the backbone of what we do, supported by all the functions you’d expect to find in a thriving business. We’re committed to creating a workplace where you can be your authentic self and offer an inclusive and flexible working environment.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Everyone is welcome to apply for our roles, and we are determined to ensure that no applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment because of their age, disability, gender identity, marital status, national origin, pregnancy or caring responsibilities, race, religion/belief, sex, sexual orientation or socio economic background.

We also recognise the importance of diversity of thought and other forms of neurocognitive variation.

Nest is a Disability Confident Leader, which is the highest level of the Disability Confident Scheme. If you have disability, declare that you’re applying through the scheme and meet the minimum criteria for this role, we aim to invite you to an interview. However, there may be a few exceptions where we are not able to take all eligible candidates to the next stage due to the volume of applications.

Please note that this advert may close early if we receive a sufficient number of satisfactory applications.
